What a full day of fun from start to finish (which ironically also happened to start and end with coffee)! I can honestly say I was able to do a little bit of everything that I love. Here’s the play by play 🙂 I woke up early, while the house was still quiet…I’m sure some of you can relate to this blissful time of day. I enjoy being the first one up, brewing my coffee, and easing in to my day….waking up before the alarm clock of motherhood, if you will!
Knowing that I had a full agenda, I wanted to make sure I squeezed in a quick workout as well. As many of you are familiar, I started a Weekend Warrior 1000 Rep Challenge. I have been enjoying these and I hope you have too – some of them have been tougher than I expected them to be! I am trying to work ahead on them so I can get my time in the posts before they go live. That being said, I smashed out a new one – primarily cardio and body weight – needless to say I was sweating! After that, I took Abby out for a short jog, because she gets a little stir crazy in the winter (don’t we all!).
So coffee, a great HIIT, and a nice run…I can safely say this day was off to a killer start! I definitely love all of those things!! But it got even better! It was time to get ready to celebrate the mommy-to-be, my friend Lindsey! The theme of the shower was Lumberjack Glam. How cool and creative is that?! The hostesses did an amazing job – the brunch was delicious, the decor was adorable, and it was great to spend time with good friends!!
There are a few basic human needs : food, water, & shelter being the obvious. But we also need personal and social fulfillment as well as love. I am blessed to have wonderful friends who fulfill my social needs and always make me laugh and smile. Even though life keeps us busy and we would all like to see each other more often – the time we do spend together is memorable and special!!
That being said…the need for love. As human beings, we all have the desire to love and be loved. Which brings me to how I was able to spend the second half of my day “on a date” with the love of my life. As parents, it is important to shower your children with love and attention, but it is just as important to make time to simply enjoy your partner and do things you love together. Shared passions of ours are spending time in the great outdoors, fitness, and really good food. It is peaceful exploring nature, even in the colder months of the year. Because it was a relatively warm day for February in Minnesota, we decided to do just that. For those of you that don’t know, we live about an hour south of the Twin Cities. We made reservations for dinner in St. Paul so we left a bit earlier so we would have time to do some hiking around Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis. Neither of us had ever been there and absolutely enjoyed walking, talking, and taking in the beautiful creek and frozen falls.
I don’t know about you, but all of this exploration and activity has made me hungry!! And I mentioned our passion for good food, right?! We have our classic favorite restaurants, but we really like to branch out, take a risk and try new places. Because the sole purpose of our date was to to celebrate my birthday and we both had a craving for Italian, we settled on Louis, which is an affiliation of Cossetas, our favorite pizzeria!! The building has been renovated and is absolutely amazing – the restaurant itself is located upstairs.
The staircase winds up about three floors and the all of the walls are lined with black and white photographs. When you enter the restaurant itself, the theme continues. Black and white photos of celebrities who have visited the family restaurants over the years – including a large framed photo of Frank Sinatra, signed by the singer himself. Throughout the rest of the restaurant, the walls are lined with smaller black and white photographs of friends and family of the staff, who attended the restaurants soft opening. I thought this was really cool and made for a cozy, welcoming environment.
Not only was the atmosphere enjoyable, the food was absolutely phenomenal too! Everything sounded delicious so it was hard to make our decisions….but we did 🙂 Geoff settled on the Porterhouse steak and I went for the Tiger Prawns with Polenta and a side of Balsamic Glazed Carrots with some red wine to drink. YUM!!!
And if that wasn’t enough….BUT….there is always room for dessert. All bets were off! It was a day to enjoy and indulge…no regrets! With a lovely patisserie downstairs it was pretty hard to say no to that! Case after case of beautiful cakes, cookies, candies, and pastries, the array was mouthwatering! We chose Bananas Foster and Chocolate Mousse and ordered a small package of checkerboard cookies to bring home to the girls.
What a relaxing afternoon and memorable evening – one I would repeat in a heartbeat. Thank you Geoff for sharing your life with me! I look forward to many, many more years together – filled with strolls through nature, incredible dining, smiles, and love!! xoxo
